FAQs

What happens during the first session?

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’re unsure what to expect. In our first session together, I’ll create a safe, confidential space where you can talk openly. We’ll discuss what’s brought you to counselling and explore what kind of support you’re looking for. There’s no pressure to share anything before you're ready — this time is for you.

How many sessions will I need?

This will be entirely up to you. There is no pressure to book a certain number of sessions.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at least 24 hours before your session. If payment hasn’t been received by then, I’ll need to cancel the session — thank you for understanding.

You’re welcome to pay by bank transfer in advance, or if we’re meeting in person, you can bring cash on the day if that’s easier for you.

If you ever have any questions about payment or need to discuss anything, just let me know — I’m happy to help.

Can I cancel a session?

A session can be cancelled or re-arranged by giving at least 24 hours notice. If a session is cancelled less than 24 hours, unfortunately no reimbursement will be made.

Is counselling confidential?

As a registered member of the BACP, I follow their Ethical Framework to ensure your privacy and confidentiality are respected at all times.

Everything we talk about in counselling is kept strictly confidential. The only exceptions are rare situations where there may be a risk of serious harm to you or someone else — and I’ll always do my best to talk this through with you first, whenever possible.

These details will be clearly explained in the counselling agreement I’ll send before we start, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.
