EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a gentle, evidence-based therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences.

Sometimes difficult experiences can become “stuck” in the mind and body, continuing to affect us long after the event has passed. EMDR supports the brain’s natural ability to process these experiences, helping memories feel less intense and easier to live with.

During EMDR, you are gently guided to focus on a memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements or gentle tapping. This can help reduce emotional distress and allow new, more balanced perspectives to emerge.

You do not need to talk in detail about your experiences unless you want to. Sessions are carefully paced, with a strong focus on safety, choice, and your readiness. EMDR is always tailored to you and offered within a warm, supportive therapeutic relationship.

EMDR can be helpful for trauma and PTSD, anxiety, distressing life events, phobias, and low self-esteem linked to past experiences.

Counselling

Counselling is a compassionate, evidence-based approach that supports you in understanding and working through whatever may be affecting you in your life. You may be feeling anxious, low in mood, overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or carrying experiences that still feel present today.

Sometimes difficult or overwhelming experiences can continue to influence how we feel, think, or respond in everyday life. My approach to counselling is trauma-informed, meaning I work with an awareness of how past experiences can shape our thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of safety. I have several years of experience supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse and other forms of trauma, and together we explore patterns and responses at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

If helpful, we could explore psychoeducation as part of our work together. Psychoeducation simply means sharing information about how the mind and nervous system respond to stress, trauma, attachment, or anxiety. Understanding why you feel or react in certain ways can often reduce shame and self-criticism, and help you make sense of your experiences.

Through our work together, we focus on building emotional safety, regulation, and self-understanding. The aim is not to relive the past, but to help you feel more grounded, secure, and empowered in the present.

You are always in control of what you choose to share. Sessions are guided by your readiness, with a strong emphasis on safety, collaboration, and respect. Counselling is tailored to your individual needs and offered within a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship.

Counselling can be helpful for anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem, the lasting impact of challenging experiences and so much more.
